NEW YORK — May 13, 2021 — NBCUniversal Television and Streaming is solidifying its commitment to its cable portfolio following a year where each of its cable brands – Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, Universal Kids and USA Network – remained leaders in their respective areas of focus, including Bravo and USA once again securing positions among the top five ad-supported cable entertainment networks in the key 18-49 demo. NBCUniversal unveils a wide-ranging slate for its cable portfolio, which will collectively add 33 new unscripted shows or specials, bring back over 30 fan-favorite hits with more pick-ups to come, launch five scripted series and air three original movies in addition to multiple live events.
“A key driver of success at NBCUniversal’s cable networks is our ability to tap into the scope and scale of our collective portfolio while leveraging each brand’s distinct audience to build unrivaled fan destinations across our networks and on Peacock. Our cable networks represent a vital part of our business and we will continue to invest in our brands and IP in innovative ways, whether that be through mixing live sports and big event series on USA, introducing a new host to E!’s flagship Red Carpet, or bringing our addictive Bravo shows to life with fan experiences, our networks remain the home of culture-defining television.”
– Frances Berwick, Chairman, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming
“With more than 40 new series and specials across the cable networks, our content team has been firing on all cylinders to ensure our brands are at the center of destination viewing. Our high-profile competition shows, spinoffs of fan favorite franchises and much-anticipated scripted originals super-serve existing fans while also enticing new ones.”
– Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming
NBCUniversal’s cable portfolio is one of the strongest in the marketplace. Not only are Bravo and USA maintaining their positions as top-five ad supported cable entertainment networks in the key 18-49 demo, but both cablers are pacing for their best years ever in both on-demand views and livestreams. Bravo has the most series in the top 20 reality programs on cable across linear, social and VOD year-to-date, and USA’s “WWE Monday Night Raw” ranks as the #1 most social entertainment program on television this year, totaling over 40.5M interactions across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and USA’s newest YouTube page dedicated to the brand.
Additionally, within their respective audience groups, NBCU’s other cable networks – E!, Oxygen, SYFY and Universal Kids – dominated in 2020 and are on track to deliver in 2021. E! ended the year as the #1 most social cable reality network with a record-breaking 706M social engagements across platforms. Oxygen had its fourth consecutive year of true crime growth and viewers spent more time watching than ever before, ranking as the #1 cable network in audience engagement among all key demos and outpacing its top competitor by double digits. With over 350 hours of original programming for 2021, Oxygen is poised to continue this trend. SYFY is setting new records in on-demand views and livestreams, posting its best 1Q ever and pacing for its best year ever in both metrics. The network is also home to the most-watched new cable drama in the last year with breakout hit “Resident Alien.” Universal Kids was the fastest growing kids’ network of 2020 with double-digit year-over-year growth in their key K2-11 demo and among total views. On digital, the Universal Kids’ YouTube page secured 170M organic views in 2020, up from 16M two years ago, and last quarter the page hit a major milestone as it surpassed 1M subscribers.
