NBCU Standard Display Guidelines

This page provides standard creative guidelines and specifications for NBCU display ads. Specs and guidelines are organized by ad format across national and local display buys.

Standard display ads utilize standard file types and follow the IAB industry standards and guidelines. NCBU’s standard display ad units include desktop, tablet, mobile web, and mobile app display across the following NBCU brands:

  • Ad must have volume, mute, play, and pause control

  • Creative with in-banner video must be 3rd-party served

  • Additional file size for host-initiated video: 2.2 MB for video file load

  • Audio must be user initiated; default state is muted

  • Max animation duration: 15 seconds

  • Frame rate: 24 FPS

  • Looping: 3 loops

Creative guidelines

  • Creative is due 5 business days prior to launch.

  • Ad unit content must be clearly distinguishable from normal webpage content (i.e., ad unit must have clearly defined borders and not be confused with normal page content).

  • Max allowance of 3 site-served creatives per size per placement at a time, with a max of 3 swaps per quarter.

  • All ad units must have a 1-pixel black border surrounding entire creative.

  • Local 120x60 sponsor logos must have a transparent background, must not contain any tag lines (only the client logo), and must be visible on a dark background.

3rd-party requirements

  • All clickthrough URLs must open in a new browser window unless using an in-site URL.

  • Must code to GPT asynchronous tags in order to detect the amount of iFrames to bust.

  • Ad creative and landing pages that employ exit pop-ups are not permitted.

  • We cannot accept blocking tags.
